While many of our patients are referred by their dentist, you are also welcome to call us directly for an initial consultation. At this consultation, photographic and radiographic diagnostic processes will be used and an examination made to enable us and you to obtain a clear understanding of the situation and to discuss possible treatment options, if treatment is indicated. We place a high value on communication and are happy to answer all your questions about orthodontic treatment – how long it takes, when treatment should begin, how the process will be undertaken and what the costs involved should be. We develop a partnership with our patients from the outset, so that we can work together to bring about the desired changes.

How are those changes made? Put quite simply, we use our professional skills in the design, application and control of corrective appliances (usually braces) to bring teeth, lips and jaws into proper alignment and balance. We manage tooth movement and guide facial development. We may also recommend attention by your dentist or other specialists, if necessary.

At Max & Beresford, we take a team approach to professional orthodontic treatment. This leads to significant progress at each appointment and ensures a higher standard of treatment outcome for our patients.

With the use of dental technology, we can photograph our patients before, during and after treatment, manipulate these images as a diagnostic tool and then show you on a computer screen exactly how we will work to effect change. Digital imaging is an excellent tool that allows our patients to understand every step of the treatment.

Our spacious treatment area, looking on to a walled garden, was rebuilt in 2001. It provides an attractive, high-tech environment featuring world-class standards in cross-infection control and in X-ray safety, as well as maximum patient comfort.

We are now using a new and very high-tech system for preparing and setting up orthodontic brackets to start orthodontic treatment.

With this system (OrthoCAD) the brackets are set to computer generated models of the teeth. This is a very sophisticated system which will improve the artistic positioning of the teeth. It has been available to North American orthodontists for the past two years and we are the first New Zealand orthodontists to be trained in and using this system.

There can be significant reduced treatment time, improved artistic positioning of the teeth at the end of treatment and less disruption throughout treatment.

This new technique requires a 45 minute appointment a few weeks before the appointments to fit the braces. The impressions are then couriered to OrthoCAD in New Jersey, where they are scanned and ‘virtual models’ of the teeth are constructed.

We see this as part of our continuing effort to improve the quality of orthodontic care for our patients.

You can find out more about the process at:

You are welcome to contact us if you have questions or concerns about OrthoCAD or any other aspect of orthodontic treatment.
